Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can expect finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
